The Georgetown County Library Board has accepted in formal session and with great appreciation a bequest from the late Jean Flournoy Moody totaling approximately $1,160,000. From about 1955 onwards, Mrs. Moody, the widow of George Raymond Moody, resided in the city of Georgetown, SC, and used the Georgetown Library, checking out books and materials as well as attending programs there regularly. She did so faithfully until a brief illness took her at the age of 96.
In keeping with her love for the Georgetown Library at 405 Cleland Street, the Library Board has directed that this wonderful endowment be used for the renovation and expansion of that facility. Upon the completion of that project, the Library Board has also moved that some portion of the improved building be named for this generous benefactor.
To achieve this aim, the Library Board has unanimously charged Library Director Dwight McInvaill with engaging architect Michael Walker of Tych & Walker Architects, LLP,––under the terms of an existing IDIQ contract for services––to conduct an evaluation of the Georgetown Library for the purpose of preparing a conceptual design with cost estimates at the earliest possible date.
